The Story of Tarpum Bay Public Library
The Tarpum Public Bay Library was opened in 2004. Unfortunately, almost all the books were eaten by termites and had to be replaced.
Starting in 2007, Freedom to Read Inc. began delivering thousands of books to Tarpum Public Bay Library. The deliveries continued over several years. Freedom to Read Inc. trained the librarian to catalog the collection using a hybrid non-digital system. Today, Tarpum Bay Public Library serves dozens of local children on a weekly basis. Children are able to access the internet through laptops donated by ComputerReach and Bahamas Methodist Habitat. In 2019, the library was added to the Destiny Online Catalog system donated by Follett School Solutions. There are now 2,857 books in the Tarpum Bay Public Library Collection. The library supervisors in Tarpum Bay are Jonna Riley and Davaughn Cartwright. Cartwright has been with the TBPL for over a decade and is dedicated to serving her patrons. |
