The Story of
Green Castle Public Library The Green Castle Library had been a library many years ago and had fallen into decline. The local government chairwoman Nora Smith approached Freedom to Read Inc. to re-establish the library and we were eager to assist.
The first thing we had to do was tear everything down because of termite and water damage. We called our partners at Bahamas Methodist Habitat and began the arduous task of demolition work. After the building was gutted, we worked with One Eleuthera Foundation to secure funding and established Dove Construction as our partners in the rebuild. In October 2019, most of the work was completed. We anticipate that the books will be catalogued and shelved and ready for a grand opening in the summer of 2020. |
