Freedom to Read, Inc. is a registered 501(c)3 nonprofit. All donations are tax deductible. You can choose to make a one-time donation or donate monthly through PayPal by clicking here. You will receive a tax receipt for your donation. Our EIN number is 45-4131271.

Donate through Amazon

There are two ways to donate to us while you shop at Amazon.

AmazonSmile on your laptop or desktop. When you shop at smile.amazon.com, you'll find the exact same low prices, vast selection and convenient shopping experience, with the added bonus that Amazon will donate a portion of the purchase price to Freedom to Read. You can use your existing account, your current shopping cart, wish list, and account settings are all the same. Just make sure that you see SUPPORTING FREEDOM TO READ, INC. at the top of your screen.

AmazonSmile on the Amazon App. They will donate a portion of your eligible mobile app purchases to us.
1. Open the Amazon app on your phone.
2. Select main menu (=) and choose "AmazonSmile" within Programs and Features.
3. Select "Freedom to Read, Inc" as your charity.
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to activate AmazonSmile in the mobile app.

Donate Your Time

If you are interested in donating your time to promote literacy opportunities in the Bahamas, please let us know.

We do prep work in Kenosha, Wisconsin:
  • Writing out book checkout cards
  • Packing boxes of books
  • Preparing pallets of books for shipping
  • Write grants

We need volunteers in the Bahamas:
  • Work alongside community volunteers
  • Sort books and shelve them
  • Put checkout cards in pockets
  • Data entry for Destiny Online Catalog

Things to understand about volunteering:
  • You have to pay for your own travel ($600-$700)
  • You have to pay $25/night lodging (arranged)
  • Eleuthera is not for everyone: things can be challenging, sometimes there is no water or electricity, there are hurricanes, the bugs can be bad and it's humid and hot
  • Volunteers are responsible for their own health and safety
  • It's beautiful

Donate Books

While Freedom to Read, Inc. manages or develops collections in several partner libraries in the Bahamas, we do not generally need book donations. We partner with Follett School Solutions, Inc. to provide books. ​
